Sterling Elliott
Law Clerk | Family Law, Divorce, Child Custody & Family Law Matters in North Carolina

Family law is personal. It affects children, parents, finances, homes, and the future of a family. Sterling Elliott understands that clients often come to Gantt Family Law during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives, and he believes every client deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported.
As a Law Clerk and law student, Sterling brings empathy, focus, and a strong commitment to service to the Gantt Family Law team. His decision to pursue law school came from a belief that understanding the law is one of the most powerful tools for helping the people he loves and serving his community.
For Sterling, family law was a natural path. His own childhood was shaped by family law, which gave him a personal understanding of how deeply these cases can affect families. That experience inspired him to learn more, grow in the field, and help guide others through the process with compassion and clarity.
Helping Clients Feel Heard
Sterling enjoys being an understanding ear for clients. He knows that family law clients are often carrying stress, fear, frustration, and uncertainty. Sometimes, one of the most important things a client needs is to know that someone is truly listening.
Sterling believes that helping clients through the emotional side of family law requires three important steps.
First, clients need to feel heard and understood. Family law cases can be deeply emotional, and knowing that someone understands what they are going through can bring a real sense of relief.
Second, clients need help clarifying their goals. When emotions are high, the true goal can sometimes get lost. Sterling believes it is important to identify what the client is truly trying to achieve so the legal team can build a plan around that goal.
Third, clients need to understand the plan of action. Fear of the unknown can make an already difficult situation feel even harder. When clients know what is happening, what comes next, and how the team is working toward their goals, they can feel more grounded and prepared.
Client Service That Sees the Person, Not Just the Case
Sterling believes excellent client service means treating clients like people, not case numbers.
Average service happens when a client feels like just another file. Excellent service happens when clients know their team cares about them, understands their goals, and is working hard to help them move forward.
At Gantt Family Law, Sterling is proud to be part of a firm where clients are represented by the whole team, not just one person. He believes this team-based approach gives clients stronger support, better strategy, and the confidence of knowing that multiple people are invested in their success.
A Growing Family Law Professional
Sterling is proud to have received the Outstanding Student Performance Award for the NCCU Family Law Clinic, an honor that reflects his dedication to learning, service, and family law advocacy.
The skills that have helped him most in family law are empathy and being goal-oriented. He understands that family law clients are often facing emotional and practical challenges at the same time, and he believes the best support comes from listening carefully while staying focused on the client’s goals.
To Sterling, successful representation happens when the firm acts as an extension of the client. The client drives the goals of the representation, and the legal team helps create the path to reach those goals.

Sterling chose Gantt Family Law because he saw an opportunity to learn from excellent attorneys who are making a real difference in people’s everyday lives.
He appreciates the firm’s culture of excellence and the way it challenges him to become the best version of himself each day. Gantt Family Law’s “Divorce Fortress” approach reflects what Sterling values most: fierce advocacy, thoughtful strategy, and genuine care for clients as people.

Beyond the Office
Sterling grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. Outside of work and law school, he enjoys playing classical music, working out, spending time with friends, playing video games, and participating in pick-up sports. He is also trying to learn how to dance.
People are often surprised to learn that he enjoys romance movies and shows, including Bridgerton, The Notebook, and Interview with the Vampire. If he were not pursuing a career in law, he believes he would be coaching youth football.
One quote that guides him is from Maya Angelou:
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
That mindset helps him stay focused, resilient, and committed to growth.
On Your Side
Family law matters can be overwhelming, but clients should never feel like they are facing them alone.
Sterling wants clients to remember that he is on their side. He is committed to listening, learning, supporting the team, and doing everything he can to help clients through one of the hardest periods of their lives.
At Gantt Family Law, Sterling is proud to help support clients as they navigate divorce, custody disputes, support issues, property division, and other family law challenges with care, purpose, and strength.
